"The Blue Cross " facts

At The Blue Cross we have 11 animal adoption centres across the country. The staff in our adoption centres are experts in animal rehoming and work hard to find new owners who are the best match for the animals in their care.

Animal Rehoming

Animal rehoming is a large part of our work, and we take the adoption procedure very seriously. This helps us to ensure that every animal in our care is adopted into a loving new home.

In recent years the percentage of rehomed animals returned to us has fallen dramatically. We believe our commitment to careful matchmaking is responsible for this encouraging trend.

The Blue Cross

Lady and her six puppies are very happy and healthy dogs that all now live in loving homes. The sad thing is that Lady was very nearly put to sleep. If she had not been rescued by The Blue Cross, Lady, like thousands of dogs across the UK, would almost certainly not be here today…

Lady and her pups are just seven amongst more than 6000 unwanted, stray and abandoned animals that are taken in by The Blue Cross each year.

This Christmas thousands of animals lives will be at risk - The Blue Cross is working harder than ever before to find and rescue stray and unwanted pets that would otherwise be put down.

In 2007 The Blue Cross expects to take in 400 dogs from other organisations that simply do not have the resources, or the facilities to care for the number of animals that come through their doors.

Every year, The Blue Cross rehomes over 6000 unwanted and homeless animals. We never put a dog down simply because it has no home. We keep them for as long as it takes to give them the best chance of finding a loving new owner.
