Plan UK
Children are our future. They carry our hopes and dreams for the world.
On May 30th Plan UK launches a month long ‘Sponsor a Girl’ online recruitment campaign. The campaign is timed to coincide with the 2008 launch of Plan’s ‘Because I am a Girl’ report.
But to realise these dreams, to truly fulfil their potential, children must be allowed to live in a world that protects them, listens to their needs and respects their rights and dignity.
Plan is one of the largest child-centred community development organisations in the world. With no religious or political affiliations, we work with families and communities in the poorest countries to make lasting improvements to the lives of their children.
In the countries where we work, one out of five children die before the age of five, and the ones who survive often go hungry and have little chance of ever learning to read and write. Plan works with children, their parents, and their community, to plan practical ways to provide many of the things we take for granted in the UK, so that together we build schools, drill wells, get nurses trained and help families to better support themselves.
The Sponsorship Offer
The first thing the consumer receives when they become a sponsor is a welcome pack which contains information and pictures of the child they are sponsoring. Alongside this will be details of their family and community, so they can get a wider sense of their situation.
Every year, they will receive at least one note, letter or drawing. This will either be from the child they sponsor or from someone writing on their behalf if they are unable or are too young. They will also receive two editions of our magazine World Family every year. This contains articles on Plan-supported work, sponsors experiences and updates from around the world.
Some sponsors arrange with us to visit their sponsored childs community to see first-hand the projects sponsors have helped to fund.
