Royal Horticultural Society

Britain's gardening charity, the Royal Horticultural Society, has a long and interesting history dating from 1804. Founded originally under the title The Horticultural Society of London, by Sir Joseph Banks and John Wedgwood, its aim was to collect information about all plants, and to encourage the improvement of horticultural practice. Today the Royal Horticultural Society is the UK’s leading gardening charity dedicated to advancing horticulture, promoting and encouraging gardening for all.

Our goal is to share our passion for plants and gardening with the widest possible audience in order to inspire and inform gardening in public and in private spaces.

We promote our commitment to gardeners and gardening through inspirational flower shows and events, gardens, advice, research, learning & education and our role in community horticulture.

The RHS believes that people gardening together can enrich the lives of local communities and bring about a sense of well-being and improved environmental quality. Gardening in the community is an important focus for the RHS and we’re demonstrating this commitment by continuing to develop our community programmes.
