"Shelter" facts

This programme is a real chance for you to help a child out of poverty in the UK. If customers donate the following amounts each month, it could make a real difference:

  • £5 a month could help us run local advice surgeries for anyone with a housing problem
  • £5.95 a month could answer a call to our helpline from people in housing need
  • £10.00 per month could help pay for drop-in facilities for homeless families where children play safely and parents can get support and advice
  • £20.00 a month could help our caseworkers settle families into new homes

Shelter

Shelter believes everyone should have a home. We help people find and keep a home. We campaign for decent housing for all.

We are the fifth richest country in the world, and yet millions of people in Britain wake up every day in housing that is run-down, overcrowded or dangerous. Many others have lost their home altogether. Bad housing robs us of security, health, and a fair chance in life.

Shelter believes everyone should have a home.

We help 100,000 people a year fight for their rights, get back on their feet, and find and keep a home. We also tackle the root causes of bad housing by campaigning for new laws, policies, and solutions.

We can't do it on our own - your help and support is crucial if we are going to make our vision a reality. You can help by supporting our work through a donation, or a regular Direct Debit.

As most of you will have seen, figures show there has been a 200,000 rise in UK children living in poverty last year.

Although the government claims there has been considerable progress made in ending child poverty in the UK, many charities such as Shelter, have described the current plight as a moral disgrace.

Shelter has launched a new campaign this week – highlighting the “1 in 7 children” figure with a range of creative to support this.

Alongside the extensive online activity, Shelter has also launched a digital poster campaign on the tube. In London alone there is 400,000 children trying to escape homelessness and bad housing. These ad’s can be viewed at Tottenham Court Road, Charing Cross, Euston and Paddington stations.
