Shelter - Build A City
Buy and personalise a new house in the Shelter virtual city for yourself, for a friend or to advertise a business. You can do this right now for as little as £5 and help some of the 1 in 7 children in Britain who are desperate to escape bad housing.
Donations will support our services for people in housing need, and will enable us to campaign for new laws, policies and solutions.
Shelter believes everyone should have a home. We help people find and keep a home. We campaign for decent housing for all. We are the fifth richest country in the world, and yet millions of people in Britain wake up every day in housing that is run-down, overcrowded or dangerous. Many others have lost their home altogether. Bad housing robs us of security, health, and a fair chance in life.
Build a city is a virtual online community where users can buy a property in exchange for a donation to Shelter.
Properties start from £10, and if you're feeling more adventurous, hotels, department stores and even skyscrapers, complete with helipads, are available. Buyers are able to personalise their property with a photo, message and website link.
Businesses can even design their own bespoke properties & all purchases will go towards helping those in housing need. For example, a £10 terraced house in the city could pay for a ten minute call to Shelter's free national helpline. Click here
Shelter believes everyone should have a home.
We help 100,000 people a year fight for their rights, get back on their feet, and find and keep a home. We also tackle the root causes of bad housing by campaigning for new laws, policies, and solutions.
We can't do it on our own - your help and support is crucial if we are going to make our vision a reality. You can help by supporting our work through a donation, or a regular Direct Debit.
As most of you will have seen, figures show there has been a 200,000 rise in UK children living in poverty last year.
Although the government claims there has been considerable progress made in ending child poverty in the UK, many charities such as Shelter, have described the current plight as a moral disgrace.
Shelter has launched a new campaign this week – highlighting the “1 in 7 children” figure with a range of creative to support this.
Alongside the extensive online activity, Shelter has also launched a digital poster campaign on the tube. In London alone there is 400,000 children trying to escape homelessness and bad housing. These ad’s can be viewed at Tottenham Court Road, Charing Cross, Euston and Paddington stations.
